Training in California

Here’s a quick report on my California training trip.  One full day of travel to get to Los Angeles.  One full day of travel home.  The four days in-between involved sitting in hotel conference rooms, from 8:30 in the morning to 5:00 pm, reviewing boring powerpoints, listening to scripted demonstrations, and then going through intense practical exercises and detailed computer work.  It was all about attention to detail and consistency of application for the national survey that I’m working on, and it is somewhat overwhelming. The people were great (and there were hundreds of us there), and the training was well-organized, but I came home exhausted.

We didn’t have a chance to see much in the city, but one evening I took the “metro” (aka subway) to Hollywood, just to be able to say I’d been there.  And on the last evening I went to “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me!” which was great fun.  Now that I’m home, I have to apply the training, and suddenly I feel like I’ve forgotten everything.  This project will keep me progressively busy as part-time work through the first week of March.
